Is there a Swiss vignette for 1 day, 10 days or a month?
No. Switzerland does not offer a 1-day, 10-day or monthly vignette, only the annual vignette. It is valid for 14 months, from 1 December of the previous year to 31 January of the following year.
Why is there no short-term vignette in Switzerland?
The National Highways Charge Act only provides for one charge per calendar year. According to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS), short-term vignettes would make the annual charge considerably more expensive.
The vignette requirement applies to motorways and expressways, i.e. Class I and II national highways with green signs. If you use these roads even for one journey, you need the annual vignette.
Cars, motorcycles, vans, motorhomes and trailers up to 3.5 t each require a vignette. A trailer or caravan needs its own vignette; more on this in Vignette for trailers and caravans.
How long is the annual vignette valid?
14 months: from 1 December of the previous year to 31 January of the following year (Art. 8(2) NSAG).

- 2026 vignette: valid from 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2027
- 2027 vignette: valid from 1 December 2026 to 31 January 2028
When is it worth buying from 1 December?
If your trip falls in December or January. The following year's vignette is available from 1 December, and if you buy it then, you get the full 14 months.
Example: you are going on a skiing holiday on 20 December 2026. The 2026 vignette is then still valid until 31 January 2027. If you buy the 2027 vignette instead, you are covered until 31 January 2028, so for all your trips in 2027 as well.
If your trip is in October or November, you need the current year's vignette. The following year's vignette is only available from 1 December.
Which short-term vignettes exist in other countries?
Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia sell vignettes for cars from one day, Slovenia from seven days. Germany, France and Italy have no vignette for cars.
Other countries' vignettes are only valid there. If you use Swiss motorways or expressways while passing through, you need the Swiss annual vignette, even if the trip only lasts one day.

Is there a monthly vignette for Switzerland?
No. There are no monthly, weekly or daily vignettes. For motorways and expressways, there is only the annual vignette, as an e-vignette or a vignette sticker.
Can I get money back if I only need the vignette for one trip?
No. Refunds are only given in exceptional cases, such as a proven duplicate purchase or vignettes bought by mistake for vehicles that do not need one (for example a motorhome over 3.5 t).
Is my Austrian vignette valid in Switzerland?
No. For Swiss motorways and expressways, you need the Swiss vignette. Other countries' vignettes are only valid in the country that issues them.
I am driving to Switzerland in December. Which vignette should I buy?
From 1 December, the following year's vignette is on sale and already valid. It covers your December trip and is valid until 31 January of the year after next, for example the 2027 vignette until 31 January 2028.
